"Follow the Leader"
I love how the pastor started this topic by playing a simple game named: follow the leader
Follow the leader, means follow everything he do
A disciple is someone who follows the Word and Way of Jesus, however, many people identified themselves as Christian, but not many of them mark their life by following Christ.
"Christian are commissioned to make disciples of Jesus."
Matthew 18:16-20
THE GREAT COMMISSION
Background of this versus: After Jesus rose from the death, 11 disciples went to mountain, they worshiped him, some doubted.......Some doubted, this could be the reason of Jesus physical appearance(They couldn't recognize Him), or they concern on how will Jesus response to their faith (when they were boast by saying they will not leave Jesus, but when the soldier came, they ran away), or they doesn't know how to response to Jesus supernatural.....Anyway, Jesus gives His great commission to his disciples, but why and how?
The means of the mission.......
1. I must make disciples because Jesus possess absolutes power. v.18
"All authority in Heaven and on earth......." Jesus said this and proclaims that He has the power over death, fear, and everything. We have limited authority in our life, but Jesus has all the power. That's mean, we might worry that we can't make disciples, but Jesus is able to help us overcome it.
People wants Jesus to be heir Savior, not King.
How would you respond to Jesus authority?
Reject? or Submit?
"Therefor, go and make disciples......." Jesus said baptizing them and teaching them to obey His commands. Making disciples demands that people far from God come to faith, and become fully devoted followers of Christ. Baptize them because Jesus He himself modeled that, and He commands it, and the church needs to see it as a significant. Teaching them to obey everything He commanded, people suppose to grow up, same as our spiritual life. Don't mix up spiritual maturity and Bible knowledge. If we are not applying Word of God in our life, it's pointless.
3. I will make disciples because Jesus promise His present. v.20
"I am with you always, to the end of the age." This is the Hope from Jesus, sometimes we feel disappointing, overwhelming, lonely or useless when making disciples, but why? Jesus promises that we can save people, we can heal people, we can make disciples when Holy Spirit is in our life, Jesus promises that He is with us. We are never alone doing His commission, for He is always with us.
Are you a disciple?
Are you making disciples?
